Tribology & Biomaterials

What is Tribology?

Tribology is the study of friction, wear, and lubrication of interacting surfaces.

The Tribology and Biomaterials Research Lab conducts research on the friction, wear, and lubrication of bearing surfaces, particularly biomaterials for orthopedic implants. We hope to develop robust bearing surfaces that will last under extreme conditions such as high temperatures, loads, speeds, repetitive motions, and corrosive environments; without compromising design requirements such as strength, toughness, or biocompatibility.
